The second half of the twentieth century saw architecture change dramatically. Exposed
structural elements and curtain walls of glass were the new order of the day.
Huge atriums, broad public plazas and new materials were incorporated. Quirky tops, new
uses for building materials and dramatic lighting effects have been employed.
A few of these new Manhattan buildings were very good, but they were poorly imitated
elsewhere in Manhattan, and throughout the country.
From the explosion of the International style in the second half of the twntieth century,
to the glitz, glass and brass of the booming eighties, projects large and small have
filled in the skyline in many neighborhoods. And as always, we ask "What's
next?"
